Summary: Notebooks with notes and illustrations about Australian (particularly Tasmanian) mosses, plus Bastow's reference sets of specimens as follows: 1 - 'Classification of Tasmanian mosses' (holograph notebook, 105 p., with pen & ink sketches plus lithographs from "Flora Tasmaniae", by J.D. Hooker); 2 - 'Key to genera and species of Hepaticae of Tasmania (...) 1885' (notebook, 151 leaves, pen & ink illustrations); 3 - 'Hepatica europae DuMortier 1874: synopsis'; 4 - "Tasmanian mosses containing keys to, and descriptions of species illustrated with drawings chiefly from Mr Archer's collection (...) vol. 2"; 5 - notebook of extracts on mosses from "Linnaea", and notes with pencil and watercolour sketches of seaweeds; 6 - index to mosses and index to hepatics, both ms, in leather wallet (lacking the index to seaweeds called for by label on front); 7 - 'Illustrated key to genera of Tasmanian mosses' published in "Papers and proceedings of the Royal Society of Tasmania 1886", pp. 39-102; 8 - miscellaneous papers used by Bastow as moss packets; 9 - plates I-XLIII (3 copies of each) published in "Papers and proceedings of the Royal Society of Tasmania 1887" pp. 209-289; 10 - 'Reference set of mosses prepared for Major H. Wilson' (on folded cards); 11 - 'References set of Tasmanian mosses' with ms index (presented by W.M. Bale); 12 - 'Reference set of Australian mosses' in herbarium folder stamped "327" on front; 13 - notebook with cover title "Where is it?" and inscribed "Index to microscopic slides 2/6/[18]92, also contains numerous annotations not related to mosses; 14 - fabric samplers from the Bastow Collection which were used as specimen folders. They were collected by Mr. White who was a travelling salesman from Western Australia, late 1890's.
