Gurig National Park, 1997: p. 2 (With the passing of the Cobourg Peninsula Aboriginal Lands and Sanctuary Act 1981 (Cobourg Act), almost the whole peninsula became part of Gurig National Park. The total area of the park is approx. 2,207 sq. km. and includes many of the surrounding islands. Its boundary extends only to low-water mark as, in July 1983, the surrounding waters were declared a marine park under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1977-85. Under the Cobourg Act, Gurig National Park became the first park in Australia to be jointly managed by Aboriginal people and a park agency through a formal board of management structure.)
