On 15 February 1971 the National Parks Authority changed its name to the National Parks Service of the Department of State Development. It later came under the Ministry for Conservation and, in 1983, ceased to exist as a separate agency, its functions transferring to the Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands. In 1986 the National Parks Service changed its name to National Parks and Wildlife Division of the Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands. In 1990 the National Parks and Wildlife Division became the National Parks and Public Land Division of the Department of Conservation and Environment. In 1992 the National Parks Service was reestablished under the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. In December 1996 the National Parks Service changed its name to Parks Victoria.
